The Hampta Pass trek lies at an altitude of 4,270 m, approximately 14,000 Ft above sea level, on the Pir Panjal range in the Himalayas. The scenic landscapes surrounding this pass make it a picturesque beauty that must be experienced!
Why, you may ask, because this trek is one of the most visually changing and gratifying, is our answer! Everything from Green Pastures, Meadows, Valleys, barren landscapes and grazing cattle is combined on this 5 day trek that will leave you feeling elated.

The Hampta Pass Trek is not the hardest Trek you could undertake and yet, is one of the most exciting and beautiful ones. Each day will present a different terrain, more breathtaking than the last, for you to explore and take snapshots of in your mind. Of course, you’ll need the general fitness that is expected of any trekker but the Hampta Pass Trek has her arms open wide for anyone from any walk of life, trekking experience no bar.

Change is the only constant and that’s exactly what the Hampta Pass Trek reminds you of on your journey

Our minds are ever changing and can be rather volatile so give in to Mother Nature and let her be all the changes your brain needs! Your eyes will first meet the pine forests and then be hit by lush, green meadows, breathtaking waterfalls, peaks, open lands, and plenty of cattle and animals. If this isn’t enough change of scenery, we don’t know what is!

Day 1: Manali (6726 ft.) to Cheeka (9400 ft.) – Via Jobra

  • Estimation time of completion: 3 hrs
  • Estimation distance of trek: 3 km
  • Tip: Get ready for a splendid drive and the beginning of an amazing time!

To reach the starting Base Camp of Jobra, you will be driven from Manali to Jobar in a car, covering the Beautiful Kullu Valley. The stunning view of Kullu Valley will set the tone for the entire Trek which you will be undertaking. Be prepared as there will be about 42 A hair-pin curves that need to be passed before you reach Jobra.

To reach the starting Base Camp of Jobra, you will be driven from Manali to Jobar in a car, covering the Beautiful Kullu Valley. The stunning view of Kullu Valley will set the tone for the entire Trek which you will be undertaking. Be prepared as there will be about 42 A hair-pin curves that need to be passed before you reach Jobra.

Once you arrive at Jobra, you will find that all the necessary gear required, and essentials will be there. We will refresh here & prepare to start our journey by foot from here on out. It will be roughly 2 – 3 hours before we arrive at the Cheeka Base Camp.

As the journey begins, you will be introduced to the forest which leads up to the meadows. The Rani Nallah is spotted near the meadows, opening there and moving gracefully through the meadows. Instant Bliss will meet you with this sight. A further climb to the hill with a quick descent after will bring us to the Cheeka Camp.

The Cheeka Camp is surrounded by the river, and the sound of the water beating and making waves will make it the most enjoyable stay for the night. We rest for the day now and will resume fresh in the morning.

Day 2: Cheeka (9400 ft.) to Balu ka Ghera (12,400Ft)

  • Estimation time of completion: 7 hrs
  • Estimation distance of trek: 9 km
  • Tip: Keep sufficient water with you at least 2 liters.

Today will consist of a little more of Trekking than yesterday. We will leave early in the morning from Cheeka Base Camp to Jwara and then reach the Balu ka Ghera Campsite.

As we tread alongside the river bank to your right, you are likely to be amazed by the beautiful forest region that engulfs our path. At the end of the river, we will arrive at a Waterfall that must be crossed to get to the other side. Word of advice: The pristine water coming from the falls is a true taste of the Mountain Water drinking experience.

The ascent will remain a steady climb as we keep moving along, and an hour afterward we will reach the halfway point of today’s Trek, Jwara. Jwara is filled with beautiful meadows & the snow-clad valley will really push the boundaries on your idea of Nature’s Beauty. Behind the snow-clad mountains, you will be able to see the Hampta Pass.

Moving along, we will reach the end of the valley post which is a small slope leading to Balu ka Ghera. The spectacular view of the mountains will leave you happy as we rest for the remainder of the day. You must get sufficient rest because you will need it.

Day 3: Balu ka Gera (12400 ft.) to Shea Goru (12900 ft.) – Cross Hampta Pass (14,020 ft.)

  • Estimation time of completion: 9 hrs
  • Estimation distance of trek: 10 km
  • Tip: Carry sufficient water as there will be water scarcity.

The first half of today’s Hampta Pass Trek journey is the steep ascent to the Hampta Pass while the second half is a gradient down towards to the Shagaru.

We will need to pass 2 ridges to get to the climb leading up to the Hampta pass. The climb to Hampta is a little strenuous so be prepared – the vertical slope to get to Hampta might take a little longer than expected because you will need to be careful along the ridges but once we are there, you will see the meaning to all that you have been through to get here.

The sheer experience of viewing the Mountains so close to you as you learn to embrace them as one and truly be connected. The Hampta pass is truly something of a fairy tale in terms of the viewing experience. We will rest here for some time and enjoy our accomplishment.

Shortly afterward, we will descend to Shagaru Basecamp and the path is a little tricky as we are closer to the edges. Caution must be taken to walk and cross carefully while we are Trekking down. You will see the Beautiful valley of Spiti as we move towards the Shagaru Valley. From the Shagaru Valleys, it’s a half hour trek toward the Base Camp where we will retire for the night.

Enjoy blissful sleep in the Shagaru Basecamp and pat yourself on the back for the Milestone that you have accomplished today.

Day 4: Shagaru (12900 ft.) to Chatru (11000 ft.) – drive to Chandratal (10,000Ft)

  • Estimation time of completion: 5 hrs
  • Estimation distance of trek: 5 km
  • Tip: Wait for the Best Lake View, carry sufficient water, at least 2 liters.

We will descend further to Chatru from Shegoru Base Camp. Though it is an easy descent, caution needs to be exercised especially when we reach the riverside. The road gets a little tricky to walk on and you need to walk towards the rocks and be aware of any slippery areas.

2 to 3 Glaciers will be flowing down from the Mountains. These Glaciers carry with them the water that is from the Mountains itself and flow into the Chandra river.

The Chandra river is a real beauty to witness – the water gushing for the rocks, the whirlpool of foam, and gushing water sounds are absolutely calming to hear.

We will cross these Glaciers carefully to get the Chatru Camp. Once we reach the camp, we rest for the remainder of the day and enjoy our last night together with festivities.

Day 5: Chandratal to Manali (Drive Back)

  • Estimation time of completion: 5 hrs
  • Estimation distance of trek: 50 km
  • Tip: Leave the mountains clean behind you.

From Chatru Campsite, if the weather is pleasant and roads accessible, we will move towards Chandratal Lake. Otherwise, the car will take you back to Manali.

If Chandratal Lake is accessible, the car will take you the Chandratal Lake, also commonly referred to as the Moon Lake because of its sheer tranquil blue colour. You can easily get lost in the beauty of lake and this rare and beautiful sight is only accessible during summer. The Chandratal Lake has been a legend among some for its eternal beauty of Blue. You will instantly feel that you are in a paradise.

Once you have concluded with the Chandratal Lake. We have officially come to an end of the Trek. The car will drive you back to Manali. This journey will take about 7 hours.
