You’ll be welcomed by a host of Deodar trees that make up for beautiful forests on the trail, and this is how this small town gets its name. The winters are pretty cold with snow and this trek falls under the easy-moderate trek. Bare the cold and be delighted as you take up the ascent to this campsite. Worth every bit of it!

Day 1: Dehradun to Lokhandi to Saraswati.

The distance on road is 90km and the trek comprises 3.5 km

Time: 4 hrs.drive and 2 hrs. trek.

The drive to the Lokhandi is through the hill towns of Chakarata and Sahiya that are breathtakingly beautiful. Once we reach Lokhandi, we start the trek by noon and the distance we cover for the first day is only 3 km. The trail begins on the route to Koti Kanasar that goes into a patch of trees that’s a mix of both Deodar and Pine.

Climbing up 500m, the forest gets thicker and a little thrilling as we trek through a narrow passage at the edge of the mountain. Now we can expect the climb to get a little easy because the terrain gets flat. It opens up to a lovely green meadow where all of us can rest and enjoy the fresh smell of grass.

From there, we’ll be heading North East and as a pleasant surprise, the sun is always up here. You might find some snow if you’re trekking during winter months.

There’s a ridge coming up that we’ll have to cross and the journey is mostly filled with mud, rocks and snow in winter. We got to climb for another hour and a half and then begin the descent along a line of couple of Chaniya huts on the trail.

We will reach our camp for the night, Saraswati Campsite, situated at 2.5km from Lokhandi and covered by tall trees all around.

For the night, make sure you wear warm clothes as it may get chilly. The campsite does have a source of water and potable water during the winter too.

Distance: Total 16.07 km trek; 6.26 kms ascent and 9.81 km descent. Then 110 kms drive to Dehradun.

Time: 6 hrs. of trek and 3.5 hrs. drive

We plan to start the trek at 5am, because it’s a long trek for the day. Make sure you carry enough water for the journey, because it’s hard to find a source of water on the way. The journey from now is a steep climb and along we’ll keep hopping into few ‘Chhannis’ (Shepherd’s Shelter) that’s surrounded by a mixed trees of pine and oaks.

The ascent to Vyas Point is gradual and within 550 mtrs of the climb, you will be able to see a beautiful view of the mountain to your left. While you keep moving 200 meters ahead, say hello to the Greater Himalayan ranges that’s sure to gather all your attention. The trail then connects with the meandering roads of Jadi village to Forest Office, Vyas Point.

Here’s your last climb for the day; 700 mtrs of on the trail, deviate to the left and keep going for about 400 mtrs to reach Vyas Point.
